Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning, God created heaven, and earth.”

In the beginning, the Father looked upon the Son with love and said, “Behold, my Son, I love you, and I will make you a bride with whom your love can flourish. I will make a world, magnificent in its beauty, to show all the different ways in which love can be expressed. This world will be where the wedding feast between you and your bride shall take place; I will adorn it with stars as a ceiling, the autumn leaves as décor, flowers without number, all things will sing with beauty the magnificence of love. And she will be more precious than them all combined, a shining treasure in your hands.” And it was so. You, beloved of Christ, are the bride. All that you see, all that you encounter, is the adornment of the temple that serves as your lifelong marriage to Christ the King. Now, God began by laying the foundations of this magnificent wedding venue by constructing the heavens, by which is meant all that is invisible, all that has a spiritual nature. This is so because the Father is Himself spiritual: “God is a spirit” (John 4:24), being the essence of Love, with the Word being the perfect expression of this same love: “He that seeth me seeth the Father also” (John 14:9). In a sense, without taking away from the personhood of each member of the Trinity, you can think of the Father as Love, the Word as the words I Love You, and the Holy Spirit as the gift of that love, that which brings I Love You into the heart, giving life, light, and love to those that love. In addition, love is a spiritual reality which points to the nature of the Trinity: “We see now through a glass in a dark manner; but then face to face” (1 Corinthians 13:12). With this is also ordering, as the Word is often called the Wisdom of the Father, showing that all things are orchestrated and placed in a beautiful, wise manner that best expresses love. Therefore, the events in your life are all ordered to make you the greatest expression of love that you can be, if you allow the Divine Artist to paint His masterpiece upon the canvas that you are. The earth is also made, not upheld by elements and atoms and as a series of accidents colliding against each other, but everything that is made by the Most Holy Trinity is embodied love. It is a simple principle, Theophila, but one that allows you to perpetually feast on love and beauty. Every little thing that you see is the Divine Lover handing you another expression of His infinite love. Therefore, in the beginning, Love expressed Himself through that which is invisible: Natural law, virtue, angels, etc., and that which is tangible: The creation you see around you. All that is is ordered to love, even that which does so poorly, and upheld by love, and you can grasp this love when you allow your eyes to be opened by the Divine Lover: “And Jesus having compassion on them, touched their eyes. And immediately they saw, and followed him” (Matthew 20:34). Then, you needn’t look deep into wisdom or broad in the world to find love, but realize that it is everywhere in your life, more present than the air you breathe: “Am I, think ye, a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Shall a man be hid in secret places, and I not see him, saith the Lord? Do not I fill heaven and earth, saith the Lord?” (Jeremias 23:23-24).
